PIED PIPER - A RUNAWAY SUCCESS

Did you notice the children running down Swakeleys Road on Sunday mornings during December and January to the United Reformed Church? Why were they hurrying with such enthusiasm? Who was attracting the children in this way? We soon found out it was the Pied Piper!

Rehearsals started in September for the musical play, The Pied Piper, which was presented to full houses on the afternoon and evening of Saturday 1 February. It is a well-known story - the Pied Piper rescued the town of Hamelin from the scourge of rats then, following the Mayors refusal to give him the agreed payment, led the children from the town.

Many children from the U.R.C. and from St Giles, as well as others, who live locally, took the parts of the children and the rats. All the children, as well as the adults playing the townsfolk, gave excellent performances. The audience shared the obvious enjoyment of the cast. Congratulations to the producers, Anne Whitlam and Sarah Pestana! Now the question is being asked: When can we expect the next production?
