A ROYAL OPENING FOR GLEBE

Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Gloucester paid a special visit to Glebe Primary School on 15th October to formally open its brand- new school building.  The Duchess (left, seen meeting the children accompanied by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant) was also supported by many local dignitaries including the Mayor of Hillingdon.  Also present was television presenter Sue Cook who, as a one-time pupil of the school, was invited to open the new library which has been named in her honour!

Her Royal Highness was welcomed by Nick Alford, the school’s Headteacher, who expressed his appreciation for, “the patience, perseverance and determination of all those associated with the school over the last 18 months, not least the staff and pupils. This beautiful new building gives us a great place to learn every day and we will all work hard to ensure the school continues to go from strength to strength”, he said.  The Duchess thanked the school for inviting her and wished it well for the future.  She met the children, dressed smartly in red, and the visitors, conducted by school prefects, were given a tour of the new, and very impressive, facilities.

The RAF trumpeters sounded a rousing fanfare to honour the occasion.  The school choir sang sweetly in the main hall where the Duchess ceremoniously unveiled a plaque, made by stonemason Andrew Scoates, himself a former pupil at Glebe.  This new start will undoubtedly inspire the development of a variety of talents and we wish the school every success for the future.               AFN
