Letter From France
Le Matou 47800, Roumagne, Lot-et-Gardonne, France
Dear ICN Readers
After
many years of life in Ickenham my son Steve, and I, now live
here in a beautiful region of France on the borders of the Dordogne.
While in Ickenham I was confirmed in, and married at, St Giles'
Church. Steve was baptised there and my deceased husband's ashes
lie in the churchyard.
France is all very different from Ickenham, and there is so
much to see and do in the clean air. The lifestyle is relaxed
and there are no traffic jams, but I do miss my friends and the
Village shops. Even so, the shops are lovely here too.
If you happen to want a super holiday walking, swimming in
our pool, or visiting historical Chateaux and vineyards please
call and speak about a break with us in one of our lovely cottages
for two, four or six people. I would welcome just a chat, from
a friendly voice, if you care to 'phone 0033 553 937 112 from
England. Our 'ring' tone sounds a bit like an 'engaged' tone
so don't hang up immediately! I've even gone on to email with
the address a.hedgehog@wanadoo.fr
or the.hedgehogs@wanadoo.fr
Perhaps I will hear from you.

'You can do it!
I don't think you can wake up in the morning and think "I'm
going to change the world," but what you can say is
"I'm going to do my bit" and if I can do the
best that I can do, and do it right, people will follow ... I
think we can all make a difference.'
Kwame Kwei-Armah, writer and star of TV's Casualty.
Be an important part of
this year's Christian Aid Week by volunteering to deliver and
collect red donation envelopes. Last year we made over
£6,900, with your help Ickenham could raise even more.
We need to replace those lovely people who sadly are no longer
with us, and those who now do not feel able to collect this year.
Please spare just two hours of your valuable time to
deliver and collect about 40 Christian Aid red
envelopes to houses near your neighbourhood.
Please phone Christian Aid Week local Coordinator, Bernard
Pearce on 01895 673596 if you can help (or know of anyone else
who is willing to help), or, would like to know more. The Christian
Aid committee will be delighted to hear from you.

The amount donated to Christian Aid is nearly double the £1,000
sent in 2003, though this is mostly accounted for by six months'
waste paper money, relating to 2002, not being received until
2003. The donation is, of course, over and above amounts collected
door-to-door in Christian Aid week.
The regular attendance at the Ploughman's Lunches is much
appreciated, as is the hard work of those who provide and serve
them. It is clear that a most valuable contribution is made by
those who loyally continue to take their waste newspapers and
magazines to the bins in the car park off St. Martin's Approach,
Ruislip.
The cumulative total received from waste
paper, since Ron Watkins started the collection in 1970, amounts
to £20,623.
