Adrian is Ordained Priest
Emmanuel
Church, Northwood, on 3rd July at 11 a.m. was the venue for the
ordination, to priest, of St Giles' Church Curate, Adrian Guthrie.
His wife Juliette and his three children Adam, Jo and Rachel
supported Adrian, a former Design and Technology lecturer, along
with a host of parishioners from both St Giles' Church and the
U.R.C.
The Rt. Revd. Peter Broadbent, the Bishop
of Willesden, conducted the service, and a total of six men and
women candidates from the Episcopal area took Holy Orders and
one woman was commissioned as an accredited Lay Minister.
Around
600 worshippers joined the two-hour long service in the cathedral-like,
setting of Emmanuel's building. The volume of the hymn singing
well nigh 'raised the roof' as did the acclamation of the people
when Bishop Pete asked them to affirm that the candidates be
ordained.
The service contained a mixture of well-known
hymns along with more modern praise songs to accompaniment by
both organ and modern band with brass. A giant video screen allowed
the congregation to witness the detail of the moment of ordination
for each candidate. This sight is normally obscured as supporting
clergy encircle each candidate and place their hands on his,
or her, head.
Adrian
celebrated this landmark in his life by presiding at St. Giles'
Church communion on 4th July first at 0800 and then at the Family
Service at 0945.
During the latter occasion Adrian explained
how the seeds of his current vocation were planted some twenty-seven
years ago. While training to be a teacher, the suggestion that
he seek the ordained ministry was prompted by a friend. The message
was filed away in the recesses of his mind until more recent
years when the call became stronger and could not be ignored.
After all the testing of, and training for,
his new role we now welcome you, Adrian, to the priesthood. God
bless you, your family and your ministry to our community.
