Ickenham Church News - June 2005

April 24th was a very special day for our two Ickenham Churches. It celebrated the 20th anniversary of the signing of the covenant between St Giles' Church and Ickenham United Reformed Church. The two instigators of this marvellous agreement returned to us to join in the celebrations held, this year, in the U.R.C. The Revd. Alan Cassingham led the service and the Revd. Paul Kelly gave the sermon. Also returning was former Priest-in-Charge of St Giles' Church, the Revd. Philip Robinson, who read the lessons. St Giles' Church Rector Designate, the Revd. Adrian Guthrie, presided at communion and Honorary Curate, the Revd. Ken Tombs assisted.

The U.R.C. was absolutely packed out for this joyous reunion and the congregation remained behind in the courtyard for quite some time in order to chat to Paul and Gill, Alan and Robin, and Philip.

How wonderful that our two church congregations can proclaim, united, to the community of Ickenham, their love for Christ.

We the congregations of St Giles' Church of England, Ickenham and the Ickenham United Reformed Church affirm our common belief in One God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We thank God for our common heritage in the Gospel of our Risen and Reigning Lord Jesus Christ. We praise God for the insights and gifts of the traditions represented by our two churches.

Now in repentance and faith, trusting in God's grace, we accept one another as Christ in His mercy accepts us.

We therefore covenant to walk in unity as far as our conscience and our respective church disciplines allow.

We pledge to be open to those gifts of the Spirit continually received through the Word of God in the Bible, the Sacraments and our Christian life and mission together.

We seek never to do in separation those things, which could be done better together.

DROP-IN FOR THE BEREAVED. Third Monday of each month. St Giles' Church Hall, 2 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. A friendly, informal opportunity for a chat, over a cup of tea, with other bereaved people and pastoral visitors. The next meeting is Monday 20th June (also Monday 18th July). Just come along, or ring the Rectory (622970), if you would like to talk to someone first. The Evening Drop-In will be held on the 1st Wednesday of each month, from 7.30 to 9.00 p.m. in the United Reformed Church Hardwick Room. (June 1st and July 6th)
