PARKINSONS DISEASE SOCIETY

COFFEE MORNING RESULT

The committee and members of the Parkinsons Disease Society  (Hillingdon Branch) thank everyone who helped us, in any way, on the 29th April to make our Parkinsons Awareness Event, held in the  Village Hall,  such a success.   We raised nearly £900 in 3 hours, and Denise Squires of Harefield, handed us a cheque for £660, which she had raised by running in the New Forest Marathon last September, and finishing in four hours and sixteen minutes.

We hope everyone enjoyed the selection of cakes, which is a speciality of ours now, and found something to read, and something to plant. We  especially thank our  lively band of helpers who made it all such fun.  Thank you all.

THE REVD. SUE WOODCOCK – PARTNER WITH THE CHURCH IN SPAIN

St Giles’ Church supported Sue Woodcock’s work in Christ’s name in Africa and then did the same for a decade while she was in Bolivia with SAMS (The South American and Iberian Mission Society).

Following her ordination as priest in the U.K. she became vicar of Sabadell near Barcelona and archdeacon of the Churches of the Spanish Episcopal Reformed Church that stretches as far as Alicante and Palma de Mallorca, and we have continued with our support.

Sue is coming to England in June for Home Ministry visits. She will be staying with her sister Barbara during the final week of the month and will be speaking to St Giles’ Church congregations at their 8 a.m., 9.45 a.m., and 6.30 p.m. services on 25th June.

Sue will join old and new friends for refreshments after the 9.45 a.m. service and more refreshments will be served at the beginning of the informal evening service in the Church Hall. Two or three members of her Sabadell congregation will join Sue for this visit.

We do hope that as many of you as possible will come to welcome Sue and enjoy her ministry on the aforementioned dates and times.

PETER AND PERRY LUNCH WITH THE QUEEN

As ICN went to press it was announced that the Queen would visit Hayes Town Centre, Brunel University, and the new ‘Lido’ Athletics Centre in Uxbridge, on Friday 19th May.

Amongst the Queen’s 80 specially invited guests to her lunch at Brunel University were two very familiar faces. Peter Daymond, who is Chairman of Ickenham Residents’ Association and Perry Parsons, teacher at Vyners School and leader of the Perry Parsons Big Band and The Vyners Swing Band.

Both were taken by surprise to be invited and felt honoured and privileged to be amongst the few. Neither ever thought this would happen to them. Both were sworn to secrecy and had to undergo security checks

LOCAL YOUNGSTER IN NEW COMPASS THEATRE MUSICAL

Talented local teenager Shaun Chambers is due to take the Compass Theatre stage in the premiere of the new musical “Vincent - Prisoner of a Dream” in June.

Although no stranger to the Compass this time his voice, more mature than his years would suggest, has earned him his place amongst an otherwise professional cast.

Previously performed chorally by the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and ‘workshopped’ by the Richings Players of Iver this compelling story, full of emotion, colour and melody, covers elements in the turbulent life of the world-renowned artist Vincent van Gogh. The writers of “Vincent - Prisoner of a Dream” were most impressed with Shaun’s audition and he has now become a valued member of the cast.

Come to one of the performances that run from Tuesday 27th June to Saturday 1st July at the Compass Theatre in Ickenham and hear this new local talent for yourself.

See ‘Forthcoming Events’ for details.
