FOOTBALLERS’ DOUBLE VICTORY
Ickenham Youth FC had a busy, fun and highly successful trip to the Manor Youth Tournament at the start of September.
All age group teams did themselves proud, but special mention should go to the Under 9s who were unlucky to lose out in their semi-final, to the Under 11B team who were the beaten finalists in the Plate competition, and to the two teams who went ‘all the way’ and returned victorious with their trophies: the Under 10As (left) and the Under 11As (right) brought home the silverware and are pictured here in celebration.
Well done to all the players, trainers, coaches and managers too!

Since we last reported on the Rukiga project we have continued to meet with local groups to tell them about the link with our Rukiga friends. At the end of Holiday Club, we handed over a cheque for £5,000 to World Vision as the next instalment towards the water provision project. Half of this came from the two fundraising events that have been featured here in ICN the sponsored walk in Swakeleys Park during the Festival and the Art for Rukiga Auction. The rest has come from local donations arising from those meetings, and also from the collection of small change from the children during Holiday Club. Our thanks go to everyone who has helped in any way.
There are still a number of Rukiga children in need of sponsorship. If you, your family or a group would like to sponsor a child, you can do so for just 60p per day. Please contact Pat Smith on 01895 634238, or me on 01895 678169 and we will get you on track for that.
Plans are now underway for the next visit to Uganda. This will be in late October / early November and we will have much more to share with you on our return. Meanwhile, have a look at our website www.clickrukiga.org.uk and please keep supporting this very worthwhile community link.

Earlier this year, Hilary Parker, a guider with 4th Ickenham Guides (URC) completed her prestigious Queen’s Guide Award. Hilary, who works as a lighting specialist with the BBC, had her official award ceremony at Gibson Hall, where her award was presented by newsreader Kate Silverton.
Over three years, Hilary has worked on and completed many clauses to achieve this honour: these included gaining her licence to allow her to take guides on holiday, and working with other young adults to develop international resource materials which have been published and are in use in many brownie and guide units.
Congratulations and well done, Hilary!
Receipt is acknowledged, with grateful thanks, for donations towards the cost of ICN, from:
