ART FOR ART’S SAKE

St Giles’ attendee Christine Harris has been an art tutor for over 30 years, and since September 2005 has been running a Monday Evening Art Class in St Giles’ Church Hall. 

The classes are open to adults of all ages and abilities, including the complete beginner.  “It can be wonderful to see how quickly new recruits improve, and how they can be encouraged and inspired by seeing the work of more experienced members”, says Christine. 

Students work in their own choice of medium.  Some have a preference while others like to experiment and try their hand at everything.  But whether they work in watercolours, oils or acrylics, Christine is on hand with help and tuition to develop and improve skills, and engender a feeling of confidence and achievement.  “We work through all the basic principles – composition, proportion, perspective.  But the main thing is to provide the opportunity to learn and develop skills while enjoying the journey and the company of others.” 

Exhibitions of work have taken place at local venues – the Library, and the Cow Byre in Ruislip for example.  And class members can attend occasional optional outings.  Last year, there were very interesting trips to Winsor and Newton’s paint factory and to the National Portrait Gallery. 

The classes – on Mondays from 7.30pm until 9.30pm – run for three terms a year.  Fees of £5.50 per class are payable in advance at the start of each term.  The new ‘Christmas’ term (with 11 sessions) starts on 13th September.  If you think this could be for you, give Christine a call, on 01895 638667.
