A BIG THANK YOU
The start of the year seems a good time to thank Ray Baxter (see article top right) and all our other advertisers for the support they give us. We wish them all a busy and successful 2011.
Thanks too, to the clubs, societies and individuals who make donations towards our running costs. Together you make it possible for us to continue to produce and deliver the magazine to every home in Ickenham.
This month, receipt is acknowledged, with grateful thanks, for donations from:
Anon via David Thorpe; Anon of Campden Road, via Val Kershaw; Mr and Mrs Birkbeck of Ely; Mrs Chapman of Swindon; Valerie Lane of Lincoln; Kenton Light Opera Society; National Trust, West Middlesex Centre.
Copy for the March issue of ICN should be with the team by 12 noon on 13th February.
GET IN TUNE FOR THE NEW YEAR
Have you had your piano tuned lately? If it’s more than two years since it was done, the chances are it’s overdue, according to Ray Baxter, who, with the help of his wife Sally, runs ‘Action Pianos’ in Ickenham. “If a piano is used regularly it should be tuned every year”, says Ray, “In fact, some professional musicians have theirs done once a week!” Although a single tuning costs only about £50, that would soon mount up!
Ray has been an advertiser in ICN for about ten years and regards it as an excellent outlet for his business. But he travels further afield too, mainly in and about West London, to exercise his skills. His customers include Harrods and several large houses; he has even tuned pianos in Windsor Castle and Kensington Palace.
Apart from tuning, Ray undertakes repairs, as well as buying and selling pianos. He has an extensive workshop where all aspects of stringing and refurbishing are carried out. Also in the workshop is a set of drums for, like his father before him, Ray is a keen drummer and has played with various bands since he was a teenager. He’s also a barbershop singer and was recently the lead singer with ‘Capital Chorus’.
Ray and Sally were brought up in the same Dorset village, Three Legged Cross. They came to Ickenham 15 years ago and can’t think of anywhere nicer to live. They have three children aged 14 to 20 and regularly attend St Giles’.
