æAnne Dove‰s name is no longer on the front page of I.C.N. as U.R.C. Pastoral Assistant. This is because on 29th September she began a course of training at Westminster College, Cambridge, to become a minister of the United Reformed Church.
We are all, at the U.R.C., St. Giles‰ and the community of Ickenham, most grateful to God for Anne‰s Christian ministry up till now. She has led worship, preached, cared pastorally for numerous people, conducted weddings and funerals and contributed to very many meetings š all this before training to become a minister! Following her three years training she will have the opportunity to serve as a stipendiary minister

wherever God calls her.
We wish Anne well, and look forward to hearing about her experiences at Westminster College, as well as seeing her when she is at home.
In these days when some doubt the future of the Christian Church, it is encouraging that people are responding to God‰s call to serve him as ministers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in order to build up His people.

We regret to announce the expiry of our church central
heating boilers after thirty-three years of loyal service.
It will cost £20,000 to ensure that the church and the various community rooms are warm next winter. We have launched a special appeal to try and raise £10,000 towards the costs. Andrew had been getting on Simon Peter‰s nerves. Now Peter had a fiery temper but he did his best to keep it under control. Eventually, exasperated, he turned to Jesus. "You say we must forgive our brothers, but how many times are we expected to do this? As many as seven times?"
"No, not seven times. Seventy times seven times - until you lose count. How
many times do you think I have already forgiven you? How many times will I have
to forgive you in future?"

When Roger Murphy of the Church Pastoral Aid Society came to us, in December 1998, to lead the various events comprising the ëMission To Ickenham‰, it was discovered that men welcome the opportunity of meeting for breakfast!
Thirty-eight souls attended on that first occasion and since then there have been nineteen quarterly meetings, which have been well supported by local men.
Commencing at 08.00 on Saturdays, and concluding by 10.00, the meetings begin with a ëContinental‰ breakfast followed by an address and question time.
The many notable speakers have included our Member of Parliament and those engaged in leading charities, in banking, industry and the Trades Unions. They have come, also, from the fields of medicine and telecommunications. We have welcomed Chaplains from a university and hospital.

HALLOW‰S EVE
Many customs are linked with this day š most of them because this was the ëday before‰. To the Celts it was the day before winter and the New Year officially began. In later years it became the day before, or eve of, the Christian festival of All Hallows, or All Saints‰ Day.
The Eve of All Hallows (Hallow‰s Eve gradually became the word ëHalloween‰) was the day for driving out evil š which makes it seem very strange now that some people ëcelebrate‰ Halloween by dressing up as witches and monsters and having special parties. Wouldn‰t it be better for us as Christians to celebrate by dressing up as angels and saints rather than as ghosts and devils?
