Music Group Summer Charity Garden Party

Thanks to the hospitality of Daphne and Glyn Warden the Ickenham
Afternoon Townswomen‰s Guild Music Group was able to hold, in their garden, its
annual late summer charity garden party.
Members and guests enjoyed stalls and competitions, a buffet lunch and
cream teas. Together they raised an amazing Ł565 which was donated to Marie
Curie Nurses and Michael Sobell House.
DON‰T STOP COLLECTING ALUMINIUM FOIL
Although the Guide Dogs For The Blind Association has ceased collecting
this material, we are reliably informed that OXFAM in Ruislip High Street would
welcome you bringing your saved aluminium foil to its shop.

One of those
up-and-coming young lawyers put a loaded question to Jesus. "What must I
do to get to heaven?" Jesus replied, "What does it say in the Bible?
How do you read it?" The young man said, quoting Deuteronomy and
Leviticus, "I must love the Lord my God with all my heart, and with all my
soul, and with all my strength and with all my mind - and my neighbour as myself."
Jesus said, "You are quite right. Behave like
that and you will get to heaven." But the young lawyer, not wanting to be
up-staged by the orthodox nature of Jesus' reply, then said, "Well then,
who must I treat as my neighbour?" This is the gist of the answer Jesus gave
him.

A man I once knew
was mugged as he was walking down the street. He was left bleeding and
unconscious in the gutter.

A pedestrian coming
along saw him lying there but he was late for a meeting and so hurried by on
the opposite side of the road.
A company director being driven by his company chauffeur in his company car saw the man. He stopped the car and without getting out assessed the situation. He judged that the man was not too badly hurt and would probably survive. Not wishing to get involved, he said to his chauffeur, "Drive on."

Then a hippie came along in his old banger. He stopped his car and got out. He staunched the flow of blood with a home-made bandage, brought him round with a lot of his hard-come-by whiskey, helped him into the car and drove to the pub where he was spending the night. In the morning he took out two ten-pound notes and said to the landlord, "Look after him until he is well enough to go. If you spend more than this, I will repay you when I am next this way."

Now which of the three acted like a neighbour to the man who was mugged?

The young lawyer, chastened, said, "The one, I suppose, who was kind to him."

Jesus then said, "You go and behave just like that."

A Three Faiths Symposia on the Afterlife entitled "Glimpses

Naphtali, Muslim input by Dr. Fatma Amer, and a Christian
