HARVEST – A BOUNTIFUL TIME FOR ALL
Beautiful autumn flowers and fresh produce filled both churches for Harvest, and there were donations aplenty of tinned and packaged goods, and money too.
The donations went to Charles Curran House, Ickenham Abbeyfield, Ickenham Cottages, Woodlands Residential Home, the Willesden charity Upper Room, and to Hillingdon Council for distribution among families in need throughout the borough.
Around 40 of the URC congregation then moved to the Hall to enjoy a delicious Harvest Lunch together. Nathalie Murray and her helpers excelled themselves, preparing a fantastic buffet. And to keep us amused between courses, there were readings with a Harvest theme, and the joke telling by our Junior Church members was certainly up to its usual standard!
THANKS TO – AND FROM - JENNY
After over three years masterminding the recording of ICN on to audio tapes for our blind and visually impaired residents, Jenny Whittaker has stepped down from the role. We’d like to thank her for all she has done in bringing this version of our newsletter into existence.
Jenny too, would like to pass on her thanks to the readers who have helped her: “There isn’t space to thank everyone,” she said, “but if you have been involved in any way, thank you so much for your efforts. I feel a little sad to be stepping down especially as you have all made the recordings such a pleasure; I will miss you all (as well as the tea and biscuits!). Thanks also to the recipients for being so patient with me for the past year.”
For the moment, Richard and Heather Piper are handling the recording with our regular readers. But it would be good to pass this task over in the near future. Some previous experience of audio recording would be useful, but it is not compulsory; as training and support will be available and all equipment is provided. If you are interested, call Heather, on 07900 828059 for further details.
Also let Heather know if there is anyone else who would benefit from receiving ICN on audio cassette.
DONATIONS – CHECK THOSE CHEQUES!
A recent tightening of procedures at our bank means only cheques made out to ‘Ickenham PCC’ or ‘Ickenham Parochial Church Council’ will now be accepted. (Previously, any made out to ‘Ickenham Church News’ or ‘ICN’ would do.) If you or your group would like to make a contribution towards the cost of production of our newsletter, please bear this in mind.
Meanwhile, receipt is acknowledged, with grateful thanks, for donations from:
Mrs Byrne of Burnham Avenue and Lorna Ward of Thetford
Copy for the next issue should be with the team by 12 noon on 13th November. Please remember there is no January issue of ICN, so if you want to publicise any events taking place early in the New Year, tell us about them for the next issue too. |
