HERE’S TO ANOTHER GOOD YEAR!

URC fundraising had a successful 2010, which not only helped the church itself, but also generated donations of around £550 to each of our four chosen charities:

  • Abbeyfield Society Ickenham
  • Crossroads Care Hillingdon
  • Hillingdon Street Angels
  • Toybox

We will shortly be choosing our charities for 2011.   Whichever they are, they will be faced like all of us with the problems of rising costs and low interest rates.  So, as ever we will be looking for your support at our fundraising events in the coming months.  Why not put the dates in your diaries now?  Then be sure to come and join in the fun. (All dates are Saturdays)

Mar 5th            Coffee Morning and Coin Mountain
Mar 12th          Traidcraft Coffee Morning
Mar 26th          Spring Jumble Sale
May 7th           Coffee Morning, Plant & Book Sale and Auction
Jun 11th          Coffee Morning and Early Summer Forecourt Sale
Jul 2nd            Coffee Morning and Book Sale
Sep 10th         Coffee Morning and Late Summer Forecourt Sale
Oct 8th            Autumn Jumble Sale
Nov 19th         Christmas Fayre
Dec 3rd           Coffee Morning and Sale of Christmas Goods

Throughout the year we will be on the lookout for books, CDs and DVDs (but not videos) as well as a wide variety of other items to sell at different times, especially clothes and shoes for the jumble sales.  Do keep us in mind if you are in spring cleaning mode.  If you think you can help us, or have any questions, contact Richard Piper on 01895 634348 or via email: richardjpiper@btopenworld.com

PERRY APPLAUDS ICKENHAM

Perry Parsons MBE delivered a final emotional farewell at Vyners Swing Band’s (VSB) New Year Celebration Concert in January.  The VSB, formed by Perry, and which had its first rehearsal 23 years ago, was joined part way through the concert by the Stardust Big Band, (previously named the Perry Parsons Big Band).  The audience sang along to Perry’s unique version of ‘My Way’ and he gave a special thank you to both bands and his own family.  But he saved a particular tribute to the Ickenham Festival and the people of Ickenham, saying:

“The people of Ickenham have long held a place in my heart.  During 42 years at Vyners, I got to know many residents very well and was afforded a warm welcome in their homes.  They supplied me with tea, coffee, cakes and meals as well as even allowing me to use their showers when there was no time to get home before a concert!

“Although I live in Langley, I have always felt like a resident of Ickenham.  Since the inception of VSB the local support has been amazing; it’s as if people come to see ‘their band’. Thank you Ickenham and its Festival for the welcome and support you have given me for my time in Ickenham!”

CREATE SOME FUN

The Creative Fun Factory is a music and fun class for early walkers up to four-year-olds.  It’s held in St Giles’ Church Hall every Friday from 9.30am - 10.15am.  At £4 per child (or £6 per family) the pay-as-you-go sessions offer 45 minutes of action packed songs and entertainment for children and their parents.  Sessions are run by Pauline Manning, assisted by Lisa O’Brien.

There are songs and nursery rhymes and the children get to handle a variety of props and toys of different textures and sizes, as well as taking part in counting games.  Mum Karen said, “We’ve only just started to come and we love it.  It’s entertaining and educational; the children learn words, music and numbers, improve their listening skills and, every other week, ‘Cheeky Monkey’ pays a visit, which is always a great favourite.”  It seems the mums enjoy it as much as their offspring!

Contact Pauline on 020 8845 5276 or 07964 498221.
