URC SALE – OUTDOORS, WE HOPE!
How many rainy days have we had this spring? Hardly any; but for the second year running our Bargain Day was forced indoors in the morning as the heavens opened at set-up time. Thanks to the customers who also braved the weather, we still made £1400 overall, from plants, books and the afternoon’s Auction, to be shared between the church and our four charities for the year.
We’re keen to get outdoors for the next event though, our Early Summer Forecourt Sale on Saturday 11th June, 10am – 12 noon. We’ll need the space for the range of goods on offer: there will be cakes, plants, books, DVDs, CDs, records, bric-a-brac, toys and boxed games, plus Rollerball for the children.
If you have items to donate, please bring them to the church on Friday 10th June between 3pm and 7pm, or phone Richard Piper on 01895 634348 if you need them to be picked up.
Most of all, come along on the Saturday – we hope to see you on the Forecourt!

MORE ICKENHAM PARTY PEOPLE
A MEAL TO SAVOUR – AND MUSIC TO FOLLOW
 Fifty-one folk recently gathered for a slap-up Indian meal with umpteen courses at the Birothi Restaurant in Ickenham. The occasion was a fund-raising event supporting CLICK Rukiga, organised by Mike Whitlam.
The Birothi boss had kindly offered exclusive use of the restaurant for the entire evening and he and his attentive staff were determined that nobody would leave with an empty stomach! The evening was further enhanced by soothing music performed by a string quartet of young musicians from the Hillingdon Music Service who clearly enjoyed the experience of playing together.
Guest-of-Honour at the meal was Judith Asiimwe, Second Secretary to the Uganda High Commission, pictured here with Mike. Speaking of the CLICK Rukiga project, she said, “This is a great initiative that is transforming lives of the rural poor. We really appreciate the great work you are doing to help these communities.”
Mike reports that the evening raised a profit of £700 and that, combined with the money raised during the URC Prayer Walk, and an Easter Egg raffle organised by local butcher Steve Williams, an April total of £824 was raised for the cause.
Next up on Sunday 3rd July is an event at the Compass Theatre, when ‘Music For Uganda’ will again make use of the willing and able Hillingdon Music Service. The concert starts at 7.30pm and will feature the Hillingdon Music Service Brass Band, the Hillingdon Jazz Orchestra and a Vyners group. Tickets (£10 for adults, £8 for children and concessions) are available from the Hillingdon Music Service office at the Compass, from Mike Whitlam (01895 678169), or from Pro Music International in Swakeleys Road.
