SUPPER WITH THE WEA
The WEA’s popular annual Supper Evening takes place on Saturday 12th November in Ickenham Village Hall starting at 6pm. This year’s after supper lecture will be given by Brian D’Olier, an experienced geologist and active member of the Chiltern Society. His illustrated talk is entitled ‘The Geology of the Chilterns and the impact of HS2 on the local area’.
Brian is an excellent speaker, and the subject matter is topical, so an interesting evening is expected. For more details, or to purchase tickets (£10 each) contact Caroline Field (01923 824922), Jean Gibbons (01895 859644) or Sheila Johnson (01895 639815).

CHURCHES PREPARE FOR FESTIVE COMMUNITY NIGHT
Both churches will be hosting events during next month’s Ickenham Festive Community Night (Friday 9th December). Can you help us build on last year’s successes?
The display of decorated Christmas trees (both real and artificial) in St Giles’ always shows the wide range of creativity of the groups and individuals taking part. Why not enter a tree of your own? It’s free to take part, but you need to get thinking and submit an entry form by Tuesday 6th December. These are available in the church, or via office@stgileschurch.co.uk or by phoning 01895 622971. Tree height limit 3ft / 1 metre, please!
At the URC we plan to repeat last year’s display of Nativity scenes, but hopefully with even more on show this time. If you have a Nativity scene which we could borrow for the evening – especially if it is one from abroad – please phone Wendy Williams (01895 637409) by the end of November. The church is manned throughout and your contribution would be safely displayed. So do get involved; you’ll have to fetch it down from the loft next month anyway! |
