NEW LIFE FOR SWAKELEYS?
Swakeleys House has been vacant for nearly ten years while the owners have been attempting to find a new occupier. Now there is a plan to revert the building back to its former glory as a private residence.
 A public exhibition held in Ickenham Hall and Swakeleys House allowed residents to view the proposals and comment on them before a formal Planning Application is made for the change of use. Such is the interest among Ickenham residents that over 400 people attended the exhibition, and a wide variety of comments were made.
Currently, the proposals would include the closure of the footpath which runs between the lake and the house, and the removal of the Bowls Club. The organisers did confirm however, that it was the owners’ intention to seek to ensure that the Ickenham Festival could continue to be held in the grounds, as has been the case for 35 years.
Both the Festival Committee and the Residents’ Association will be among interested parties keeping a close eye on developments.
