FAIRTRADE AND FUN FOR ALL

Three events were held recently to further the cause of Fairtrade – the organisation that exists to ensure fair terms for farmers and workers in the developing world.

As part of Fairtrade Fortnight, a special Fairtrade Day was run at Vyners School by students and staff of the Geography department.  At the URC both churches combined to operate a Saturday morning Fairtrade Café.  And in St Giles’ church hall, with the cheerful assistance of children from the Junior Church, a coffee morning gave us all another opportunity to ‘Go Bananas for Fairtrade’!

And over £350 was raised for Fairtrade, Traidcraft and the Rukiga charity; you can’t say fairer than that!

ST GILES’ CHURCH STREET PRAYER LIST

Each Sunday at St Giles’ Church we pray for all the people who live or work in a particular road in the Parish.  During April we will pray for the following roads:

Apr 7th              The Greenway
Apr 14th            The Grove
Apr 21st            The Mallows
Apr 28th            The Paddock

If you live in one of these roads why not join us at our 8am or 9.45am services?  You will be most welcome.

DONATIONS

This month, receipt is acknowledged, with grateful thanks, for donations from:
Rosa Kaye; Kenton Light Operatic Society; Ickenham Townswomen’s Guild Morning Group; Ruislip Dramatic Society; Abbeyfield Society; Ickenham Branch Mothers’ Union; Ickenham Churches’ Women’s Group

Please note that items for the May edition of ICN should be with the team by 12 noon on 13th April.

WHAT A RESULT!

The Spring jumble sale at the URC raised an amazing £727 - that’s 25% up on last year - and our thanks go out to the people of Ickenham for your continued generosity in supplying us with stock.

Some things were too good for a jumble sale even of our quality(!) so those have been held back for the Auction on 11th May, part of our famous Bargain Day which starts with a Plant & Book Sale on the forecourt in the morning.  We’ll be looking for contributions for all the elements of the day and full details will appear in next month’s ICN.  Meanwhile, if you think you can help or have any questions please phone Richard Piper on 01895 634348.

Proceeds of these events get shared between the church and the four charities chosen for 2013.  The four to benefit this year will be Ali’s Dream (raising funds for treatment and research into childhood brain tumours), PAPYRUS –Prevention of Young Suicide, Hillingdon Carers and CLICK Rukiga.
