CURRIES, CYCLES AND CAR WASHING
Mike Whitlam and the team have been busy again, having fun and raising funds for CLICK Rukiga. Firstly came a slap-up Indian meal at the Birothi Restaurant, attended by nearly 40 residents who were able to enjoy some delicious food while appreciating the accompanying String Quartet music performed by students from the Hillingdon Music Service. This function raised about £600 which Barclays Bank kindly doubled to £1,200. The weather wasn’t ideal for the youngsters manning the car wash on the URC forecourt, but that didn’t dampen their enthusiasm. A further £91 was raised, and some Ickenham cars looked better for it too!
FROM ST GILES’ CLERGY
This month, I’d like to remind you about the annual Holiday Club we jointly organise. The dates and times are given on the front page advert. As you’ll see there, it’s all free, with charges for the optional outings only. Note that you do need to register in advance, though. The Holiday Club will include Bible stories, craft, singing, games, and trips. It’s a fun way to experience Christianity and it is open to children of other faiths. The Ickenham Churches aim to serve the local community in many other ways too, and to be a Christian presence in Ickenham, available when people wish to mark life events with reference to God. We take our lead from Jesus, who celebrated with others (at a wedding, sharing meals and socialising), grieved with others (with Mary and Martha at their brother’s tomb), and responded to those in need (healed the sick, reached out to the marginalized and fed the hungry). We offer as much as possible of what we do in the community at no cost, and particularly the maintaining of the church buildings and churchyard for worship, prayer and retreat – spaces set aside for the community to meet with God. We do this by church members giving an amount of their own choice each week or month via our planned giving scheme. At St Giles’ during July, we are asking existing members to review their giving in the light of rising costs, and we are encouraging new people to join the planned giving scheme. Vera lived all her life in Wallasey Crescent and was well known to many here in Ickenham. Our thoughts are with her friends and family, especially her brother Ernest.
ST GILES’ CHURCH STREET PRAYER LIST Each Sunday at St Giles’ Church we pray for all the people who live or work in a particular road in the Parish. During July and August we will pray for the following roads: July 7th Warren Road Aug 4th Wood Drive
If you live in one of these roads why not join us at our 8am or 9.45am services? You will be most welcome.

DROP-IN FOR THE BEREAVED. Third Monday of each month. St Giles’ Church Hall, 2pm to 3.30pm. A friendly, informal opportunity for a chat, over a cup of tea, with other bereaved people and bereavement visitors. The next meeting is on Monday 15th July (then Monday 19th August). Just come along, or ring the Rectory (622970) if you would like to talk to someone first.
