SINGING (AND RECITING) FOR THEIR SUPPER

Following the Harvest Evening service there was a ‘super supper’ for seventy St Giles’ members. 

A buffet, masterminded by Placida and her band of helpers, was followed by lavish entertainment provided by some extremely talented members of the congregation.  This was introduced by Adrian, laced with a selection of his deliberately corny jokes.  (At least we think they were deliberately corny!)

First up was Maylene who serenaded us Edith Piaf-style with ‘La vie en Rose’.  Phil came next with a variety of sayings and monologues, then Wendy sang and read verse in character.  Juliette, dressed in her daughter’s school uniform, recited a poem about a schoolgirl anxious to grow up, Brian Reid regaled us with memories of Flanders and Swann and then Rosemary poetically implored us to make the best of life.  Earlier, Liz Wadland had confused us with conkers and reminded us that none of our memories were perfect!  What a talented bunch they are!

CHILD SPONSORSHIP SCHEME

A new child sponsorship scheme has been established as part of our CLICK Rukiga project, linking Ickenham with Rukiga in South East Uganda. 

The children will live within a 5 mile radius of our link church St James’ in Buhangezi Parish, and the church will identify them and their specific needs.  Generally, the sponsorship will be used to help fund schooling, healthcare, clothes and food. 

The cost of sponsorship is £19 per month (£228 per year) and you will be able to write to and receive letters from the child you sponsor.  Please consider getting involved and help these children develop and grow into healthy adults.
