THE SUMMER GOES ON AT THE URC!
Yes, the holidays are over but there’s our Late Summer Forecourt Sale to look forward to on Saturday 6th September from 10am to 12noon (admission free). There will be lots of books, CDs, DVDs and bric-a-brac to browse in the sunshine, with a coffee morning and homemade cakes as well.
Please come if you can, have a good time and add to the over £3,500 raised so far this year for the work of the church and the charities that we are supporting. We feel that we are owed a sunny morning after a couple of disappointing ones! But we will of course set up inside if it looks as if the books might get wet. If you have items to donate bring them to the URC between 3pm and 7pm on Friday 5th or phone Richard Piper on 01895 634348 for collection. We will also happily take clothes, shoes, bags etc., and store them for our Autumn Jumble Sale on Saturday 4th October.
LADIES IN THE NIGHT
For the fourth year in succession, Placida Baxter, this time accompanied by two other Ickenham mums, has raised funds for the Michael Sobell House Hospice by walking 5½ miles through the night. The three ladies walked a prescribed route around Northwood, starting and finishing at Mount Vernon Hospital, where they received a Michael Sobell certificate.
Placida said, “We started walking at 10pm and finished at 3.45am. I was very tired and could hardly walk the next day! We raised £600 for the charity which means a lot to us all as we know the wonderful things it does for the people who go there. Thank you to everyone from St Giles’, Village Hall Playgroup, Breakspear School and close friends who supported us.”

COME AND JOIN YOUR ICKENHAM WARD PANEL!
Ickenham needs local people to join its Ward Panel, which is a partnership between local members of the community and the Police. Its purpose is to alert the Police to relevant local activities and developments and thus assisting them in determining their work priorities. This should improve security and make Ickenham a safer place.
Although not widely known, Ickenham has had a Ward Panel for many years. Sadly, in recent times, the panel membership has been dwindling, partly because most residents are unaware of its existence and the important work done by their Ward Panels.
Ideally, the public membership should be representative of all relevant aspects of the community, such as churches, education, trading, health, young people, residents’ associations and Neighbourhood Watch: also on the Panel will be representatives of the Police and the Council.
The demands on the time of panel members are small, with meetings taking place, probably in Ickenham Library, about every two months. If you are interested and think you might like to join, please ring Mike Whitlam (pictured) on 01895 678169 or email him at m.whitlam@btinternet.com
SPONSORED BIKERIDE THANKS
Mike Whitlam, one of the founders of the charity, CLICKRukiga, reports that the sponsored bike ride made during Ickenham Festival Week, raised a total of £901, or 3,604,000 Ugandan Shillings, for the charity.
