ICKENHAM VILLAGE HALL
Members of the Village Hall Association Limited,
and twelve local folk, own the Ickenham Village Hall in a voluntary capacity
and form its Management Committee. They meet ten times during the year to
decide what actions are necessary to maintain the Hall in good order and where
necessary, effect improvements to the many facilities. The Committee members
carry out some of the maintenance work but otherwise, outside contractors are
employed. As many will have noticed, the Community Fund recently helped to
obtain the replacement of the original roof tiling.

The Committee would encourage, to join them, one
or two local persons with practical skills. We would welcome people about to
retire, or those who have done so recently, and have time available in which
they would be prepared to share their knowledge and experience. A friendly and
happy comradeship is assured to those prepared to help maintain, and improve,
the services we offer which are aimed at meeting our Village community needs.

Darcy Cornell,

On 26th January, at
the Compass Theatre, 25 people took up Harlington Hospice‰s challenge to
memorise and recite a poem in front of an audience or write and recite their
own poetry. Whatever was chosen, the poem had be at least 14 lines long and be
learnt by heart. The event was a great success and has already raised over
£2,000 with more yet to come. Below is one of the self-penned poems written by
one of the youngest entrants.

ROSE
Reddest rose why
do you cry?
You seem more sad
as time goes by,
The day you were
smiling still in my mind,
The day you truly
shined,
You made a wish
and kept it yours,
The life dug in it‰s ruthless claws,
You reach out for
help but no one‰s there,
Does nobody feel?
Does nobody care?
If you prick me
I‰ll not bleed,
For your soul
decays with massive speed,

We are pleased to announce that, following extensive building works,
the Church Hall is now fully open again.
We now have four rooms available, with kitchens able to provide
refreshment facilities.
Parishioners and Church Members interested in hiring the hall for
meetings, classes, or children‰s parties (up to the age of 11) are invited to
contact the Letting Secretary, Yvonne Edington, on (01895) 635514 for further

on hire, which are too lengthy to list here).
ST. GILES‰ CHURCH CRAFT AND GIFT FAIR
The Parochial Church Council
has approved that I organise a Craft and Gift Fair in the Church Hall on
Saturday 25 October 2003 from 10am - 4pm. I am looking for people who
would like to hire a table for the day at a cost of £15 or 2 tables for
£25. Proceeds will go to the Church Hall Funds. Anyone interested
