From The U.R.C. Elders
In these dark wintry days it is hard not
to feel a certain sympathy for the ten foolish bridesmaids of
Jesus' parable who sat down to wait. As it got dark they fell
asleep, and were not ready when the bridegroom came.
At the U.R.C. we are very aware that we
share the responsibility to work together and cooperate, to make
this second, rather unexpected, interregnum a fruitful time.
Last time we had the help of our dear friend Liz Davies as interim
moderator, and of our Pastoral Assistant Anne Dove, to hold us
together. This time we have the Revd. Elizabeth Kemp as moderator
to help and advise us.
We are also very blessed in that, thanks
to the Covenant, everyone at St.Giles' Church ably and sympathetically
supports us. One of our joint ventures will be the Lent
meetings due to start soon.
In our Junior Church sessions, especially
with the younger ones, we are often called to work with the theme
'the Church is a family, the Church means people'. This thought
will be with us in the weeks to come. We have a small but lively
Junior Church, which will need our encouragement. We also have
several hardworking committees, which organise the running of
the Church. These include the Property and Finance Committee
and the Fund Raising and Social Groups. Two events 'in the pipeline'
are a Quiz Night on Saturday 6th March and a Coffee Morning and
'Boiler Fountain' on the morning of the same day.
Our services, taken by visiting ministers,
continue to inspire and encourage us. The Elders will continue
to care for those on their pastoral lists.
We look to the future. With God's help we
shall come through this interregnum as a strong, active and outward
looking church.

Women's Fellowship
The Women's Fellowship meets most Wednesday
afternoons in the Hardwick Room at Ickenham United Reformed Church,
Swakeleys Road at 2.45p.m. It has a varied programme, which
concludes with tea and biscuits. We are a group
of retired ladies and extend a very warm welcome to other ladies
to come along to our meeting; there is no commitment to have
to come every week. We look forward to meeting you.
For further details please telephone our secretary, Eileen Playle,
on 01923 821886.
