From the Rectory
Since the
last edition of Ickenham Church News, my colleague Adrian
has been ordained Priest and we've held, successfully, another
Holiday Club for the 7-11 year olds. That is to mention just
two significant events in the life of the Church and the community.
As Adrian embarks on his time as a Priest we pray for him and
wish him well in his future ministry. As Rosemary Hodgson, the
Holiday Club co-ordinator since 1999, steps down from that job,
we say a very big 'thank you' to her for all that she has given
- her time and organisational skills, to mention but two aspects
- during that time. Although handing over the co-ordinating role,
Rosemary will still be involved in Holiday Club again next year.
Her role as Co-ordinator will be assumed by Ann Whitlam and we
are very grateful to Ann for coming forward in this way. We wish
her well. Our grateful thanks to all who helped at Holiday Club
again or for the first time this year.
Meanwhile the holiday season is in full swing but soon time will
have overtaken it and we shall be embarking on our autumn programme.
At St Giles', the Confirmation Groups for both young people and
adults will start again in September in readiness for the Confirmation
Service at Holy Trinity Church, Northwood in November. It is
good once again to have a significant group of adults exploring
the possibility of becoming full members of the Church through
Confirmation this year.
Our two churches will come together for a six-week course entitled
'Lost for Words' in early October. This course, to be led by
Adrian, will help us in the often difficult task of expressing
our own Christian experience and understanding to our neighbours,
friends, family and work colleagues. Telephone Adrian if you'd
like to know more (676092). The course begins on Thursday 7 October
at 8 p.m.
Many of you will already have heard that I shall be leaving St
Giles' and Ickenham in October for another phase in life called
retirement! But more about that next month.
Greetings and peace to you all.
Philip

Patricia (Pat) Trudgeon
1943 2004
Our community will be sad to hear of the
recent death of Patricia Trudgeon.
Pat grew up in Hounslow and after her marriage
to Malcolm in 1965 at Bell Road Methodist Church Hounslow, they
came to live in Ickenham in 1967.
They have two children Helen and Ian who
attended local schools and both were married in St Giles' Church.
There are four grandchildren Sam, Anna, Amy and Daniel.
The children had grown up by the early 1980's,
and Pat went to work in Ickenham Library where she would have
been well known to many local readers. She was also involved
with adult literacy classes held by the local authority at Ruislip
Manor.
Pat will be missed for her friendly and
helpful manner, not only in the library but among her neighbours
and friends in, and around, Burnham Avenue.
She was diagnosed with breast cancer in
the autumn of 2002. Sadly it was a particularly aggressive type
and despite the care of the cancer teams at Charing Cross and
Mount Vernon Hospitals, passed away peacefully at Michael Sobell
House in the company of her beloved family on 27th June and was
cremated on Tuesday 6th July.
Thanks to the Holy Mowers
On behalf of all the families and friends
that have the remains of loved ones buried in St Giles' Churchyard,
I would like to say a special thank you to the 'Holy Mowers'
for doing such a grand job.
Our churchyard is a credit to each and every one of them
