EVERYTHING STOPS FOR TEA

...especially if it is a free cuppa on Saturday 11th July in St Giles’ churchyard, or inside the church if weather dictates!  From 10am until 12 noon, you can enjoy a free cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate and a biscuit, as part of The Big Brew, a diocese-wide event to promote Fairtrade products.

If you like what you try, there will be Fairtrade and Traidcraft products for sale too.  Do come along and join us, and find out more about the Fairtrade movement.  For further details, contact Rosemary Bennett on 01895 633217.

CHRISTIAN AID WEEK – A GREAT RESULT!

I am delighted to report that the collection throughout the village during May has generated over £9,400 (including Gift Aid) for Christian Aid Week.  Thank you so much, to everyone who helped by delivering, collecting and counting – but thank you most of all to everyone who gave so generously.

It is a huge amount in itself, but worth so much more when used wisely by Christian Aid partners ‘on the ground’ in countries in need.  For example, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, projects will use Christian Aid Week funds for items big and small, all of which can have a huge impact on someone’s quality of life.

·      £2.75 can buy a hoe or a spade, to help someone produce their own food

·      £12 can pay for a child’s school fees for six months

·      £137 can build a family latrine, with all the health benefits of improved sanitation

·      £360 can provide someone with seven days’ basic vet training, to improve livestock health for their whole community

So thank you once again, for your part in making this happen!

WORKING AT THE CAR WASH

Roy Hill’s team of helpers were kept busy on the URC forecourt on 20th June at the CLICK Rukiga Charity Car Wash.  And they certainly seemed happy in their work!

A steady stream of cars turned up to take advantage of a great offer for a great cause, so there was some seriously hard work being done.

The outcome was particularly pleasing, with over £200 raised, and the cars of Ickenham looking rather smart too!  Well done to all involved.

ANOTHER ICN BABY

We are delighted to announce the arrival of little Emily (5lb 10oz at birth) to ICN team member Jenny Whittaker and her husband Steve on 3rd June.  Emily may be tiny but she already generates loads of washing!

Jenny arranges the recording and distribution of audio tape copies of ICN to those who are blind or have poor eyesight.  She is taking a few months’ break from that task as she gets to grips with motherhood, so this is a good opportunity for us to thank former editor David Crane for picking up on that responsibility for us in the meantime.
