DON’T LET A BURGLAR SPOIL YOUR SUMMER

From our Safer Neighbourhood Team:

The summer months can be an inviting time for criminals.  Please take steps to reduce the risk of falling victim to burglary.  In warmer weather, thieves often simply enter homes through OPEN doors and windows, so remember you may be allowing more to enter than just a cooling breeze!

It is unwise to leave any accessible window open unless you are in that room and fully awake.  For night-time use, think about buying a fan, or if you must leave a window open, consider installing an internal collapsible locking grille.  Before going to bed, check all windows and doors are securely closed and locked.  Even when you are sitting watching TV, make sure your back door is properly secured.  If you have UPVC doors, ensure all the locks are in place by lifting the handle, then turn and remove the keys - but know where the keys are at all times, in case you need to leave quickly in an emergency.

TRY JAZZ UPSTAIRS AT RUISLIP

Regular monthly jazz sessions take place at West Ruislip Golf Centre, usually on Mondays from 8.30pm until 10.30pm.  And at just £6 for the jazz only, or £10 to include a meal in the restaurant beforehand, it’s a bargain!

The next session is on Monday 27th July, so why not come along?  Full information is available at www.jazzwestlondon.com, which also details regular events at Northwood Golf Club too.

JILL’S FESTIVAL FUNDRAISER

Do you remember Jill Crossland's popular Piano Recital at the Compass Theatre during Ickenham Festival 2008?  Well, she is appearing again, this time at Ruislip’s Great Barn on Friday 31st July at 7.30pm.  The Festival Team are selling tickets at £8, with a substantial proportion going towards the 2010 Festival costs.

ABBEYFIELD OPEN DAY

In glorious weather, Abbeyfield Ickenham opened its doors to the public on 23rd June.  Over sixty visitors enjoyed a cream tea and other attractions whilst viewing the lovely garden and comfortable interior.

Abbeyfield is a large family house in Court Road, providing sheltered

accommodation for older people. There are eight delightful en-suite bed-sitting rooms, a comfortable lounge, large kitchen, utility room and dining room where residents meet every day for a home-cooked lunch and tea.

Currently, there are three vacancies.  If you or someone you know may be interested in a new and happy home, ring 01895 632486 for details.  Respite care is on offer, and potential occupants may stay for trial periods to help them decide if it is right for them.

URC FOR HOLIDAY READING

Thanks to the good folk of Ickenham, the URC has plenty of good quality paperbacks in excellent condition, for sale at only £1 each.  There are hardback bargains too, at just £2 and £3.  So why pay more for your book for the beach?

Come along between 10am and 12 noon on Saturday 4th July, and relax with tea and coffee while you make your choice.  There will be the usual range of delicious home-made cakes to choose from too.
