ST GILES’ CHURCH STREET PRAYER LIST

Each Sunday at St Giles’ Church we pray for all the people who live or work in a particular road in the Parish.  During February we will pray for the following roads:

NEW LIBRARY ‘STOREY’

They’re back!  Ickenham Library reopened on 26th January after a rebuild of the interior, including the installation of a mezzanine floor, and the addition of a conservatory outside.  Library Assistant Gill Slaven and Manager Sam Everett are seen returning some of the 23,000 books during preparations for the reopening ceremony.

 

DAPHNE COOPER

We were saddened to hear of the death on 30th November, of Daphne Cooper.  She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and the pupils of her ballet school, the Rachelle School of Ballet, which has met in St Giles’ Church Hall on Saturday mornings for many years. 

Daphne, a retired school teacher, had taught ballet to four generations of pupils over 55 years, in Abbots Langley and in Ickenham.  There will be a memorial service for her at 2pm on 18th February at St Albans Abbey, and all those wishing to attend will be warmly welcomed. 

The Rachelle School of Ballet classes resumed in January, with Miss Danielle Rutter teaching. 

 

CHURCH ADMINISTRATOR

Ickenham URC is looking to appoint a part-time Administrator from 1st April, to work approximately 10 hours per week.  Duties will include general administrative work for the Church, printing, answering general enquiries and the administration of the lettings of the premises.  For more information please call 01895 674223 or email dorothy.vickery@talktalk.net

MORE WEA ACTIVITY FOR ALL

Two new WEA courses which began in September at the Compass Theatre were Pilates For All and Gardening For All.  Initially scheduled to run for just 10 weeks, they have proved to be so popular with attendees that a further 10 weeks have been added, running up to Easter.  And it is not too late for newcomers to join in!

Pilates For All is a friendly and enjoyable mixed class, suitable for all ages and fitness levels, and is based on a gentle form of floor exercises designed to improve posture and flexibility.  Tutor Sally Parkes is very experienced and adapts exercises according to each person’s abilities.  So it really is ‘For All’.  Sessions run from 10am to 11.30am on Monday mornings.  Come along and improve your posture, flexibility and energy levels!

Gardening For All is friendly too, and suitable for gardeners of all levels, interested in growing plants, bulbs and vegetables, at home or on allotments.  It is a practical ‘how-to-do-it’ course with some class discussion and the sessions are on Fridays from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

NEW ARRIVAL

The ICN production and distribution team welcomes another new addition.  We are delighted to announce the arrival of little Noah Benjamin McArtney-Roberts, who weighed in at 8lbs 8oz on 20th December (two weeks late as he wanted to share his mum Karen’s birthday). 

Karen and dad Gavin are volunteers who receive the copies of ICN from the printer and count them out in bundles ready for the door-to-door deliveries.  Noah’s brother Sam, aged 2¼, helps when required but isn’t yet quite sure what to make of the new arrival.  He is very pleased however about the toy digger that came with him!
