ICKENHAM CRICKET CLUB – READY FOR THE NEW SEASON
 Thanks to sterling work, mainly by the dedicated volunteers of Ickenham Cricket Club, the Pavilion refurbishment is complete, team members have been practising – so Ickenham Cricket Club in Oak Avenue is raring to go as the new season gets underway. To celebrate, Club Chairman Gordon Summerfield (pictured far left) welcomed ex-Middlesex and England fast bowler Angus Fraser (left) as the guest speaker at the Clubhouse’s Reopening Dinner in April.
An enthusiastic crowd of 118 happy people enjoyed a sumptuous three course buffet meal in the upgraded surroundings, then Angus regaled us with recollections of his time as a player and many characters in his cricketing career. Angus is now Managing Director of Cricket for Middlesex as well as a regular contributor to BBC’s Test Match Special and cricket pundit for Sky Sports. He was particularly happy to be returning to Ickenham, the scene of one of his batting triumphs: he reminded us he had scored a century here some 23 years ago!
Ickenham Cricket Club has five Saturday and two Sunday men’s teams, and is in its fourth year of providing ladies’ cricket - the ladies’ team plays in the North London Women’s Cricket league. Most encouragingly, a thriving Colts’ section provides training and age graded playing opportunities for some 350 under 18s. The social scene is thriving too.
There are two opportunities this month to learn more about this impressive local club. At the ‘Open Day’ on Saturday 11th May, the 1st XI play their first home league game of the season, starting at 1pm. Come along and watch. Then on Bank Holiday Monday, 27th May, the Annual Fun Day takes place from 11am till 4pm, with lots to do and see for all the family.

MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR THE BEREAVED
There will be a Memorial service at St Giles’ Church on Sunday 12th May at 3pm for those who are bereaved. The names of the departed, whose funerals were conducted at Ickenham URC or by St Giles’ Church staff between the beginning of March 2012 and the end of February 2013, will be read out during the service.
The Revd Deborah Chapman, Priest-in-Charge of St Hugh’s Northolt and Chaplain to the Willesden Area Mothers’ Union, will give a short talk, and members of the Bereavement Support Group will be present.
After the service, the congregation will be invited to have refreshments in St Giles’ Church Hall. Anyone who would find this service helpful is welcome to attend.
