WELLIES AND ZUMBA – FOR FUN WITHOUT SUN
The Churches’ September Fun Day at the Willowtree Centre was proof that you don’t need perfect weather to have lots of fun. The day was cold (although not wet or windy) – which probably encouraged folk to join in some of the livelier activities in an attempt to warm up a bit!
Over a hundred attended this brilliantly organised event, with lots of helpers led by Holly Blackman. It was a great way to spend an afternoon in the company of friends, with activities to suit everyone, fuelled by the provision of a scrumptious BBQ and ice cream.
The entertainment began with the parachute game, and there was football, rounders, volleyball, orienteering, and, of course, the ever-popular wellie throwing! New this year was ‘Zumba’, this communal choreography inspirationally led by the inexhaustible Jacquie. She managed to get around half of us leaping about like young gazelles – or at least, trying to! For the less active, inside the new and spacious hall, there was a selection of brain-teasing, pictorial quizzes.
The harmonious Hillingdon Youth Big Band provided the music, playing a rousing selection of tunes and later we joined the St Giles’ Worship Band in singing hymns, concluding with “Our God is a Great Big God”. He was surely pleased to see and hear such fraternity!
