DO YOU NEED HELP WITH YOUR HEATING BILLS?
In February 2013 ICN we published an article about the ‘Coal Charity’ founded by the Ickenham benefactor, Charlotte Gell, which described how she left money in trust for deserving people of Ickenham, as determined by the trustees, to receive ‘The Gift of Coals’. Although, there is no great demand for coal these days, there are still small grants of money available to help any Ickenham resident struggling to pay their heating bills. So far this year there has been no response. However, there are almost certainly people living in Ickenham who would qualify for consideration for this money but who, for whatever reason, have not come forward.
If you, or someone you know, might qualify please contact Pauline Shelborn on 01895 673086. Your application will be treated in the strictest confidence.

CHRISTMAS IN ICKENHAM
Christmas might be well behind us but the contribution made by Ickenham folk will long stay in our memories.
Festive Community Night, again organised by the Ickenham Festival team, was the start of events for many. In perfect weather, the illuminated tree by the pond was magnificent, dominating all the other lights that bedecked the village centre.
Hundreds of happy people of all ages came to enjoy the lights, the rides, the music, the food and the displays. Santa was busy in the Village Hall, which was heaving with folk savouring wares on the many stalls there; the same was seen at the Guide Hut in Community Close.
The churches turned up trumps - as always. The URC was a quiet haven of candles and reflections with, as the centrepiece, a touching re-creation of the little Lord Jesus asleep in the hay.
St Giles’ attracted 17 miniature Christmas trees, each imaginatively decorated by individual groups and beautifully serenaded by the lovely voices of children from Glebe and Breakspear schools. The next day the St Giles’ Christmas Market raised a commendable £2,200 which was shared between CLICK Rukiga and church funds.
The days that followed featured the traditional services at both churches, including the Nine Lessons and Carols, and then services heralding and celebrating the miraculous day that Christ was born.
