A ‘REEL’ SCOT FOR BURNS NIGHT
Doug Neilson, a Scot and Vice-Chairman of the Ickenham Festival team, took centre stage at the Burns’ Night dinner, held on 25th January at The Douay Martyrs School. Well over a hundred locals of various ages raised a glass to The Bard and celebrated his memory in fine style.
Revellers enjoyed a tasty three-course haggis meal, prepared by Chefs Sharon O’Dell and Lee Lewis, the haggis being piped in by a traditionally dressed bagpiper. Doug flavoured the evening by reciting Rabbie’s poems including the traditional ‘Address to a Haggis’.
Afterwards, Doug introduced the sensational Larkrise Ranters band and their caller, Ed Prichard, who made certain scarcely anyone sat out during the resounding Scottish dances. With so much conviviality, the evening flew by and was traditionally rounded off with ‘Auld Lang Syne’, the words being provided by Doug. The event was a huge success; all profits being split between Douay Martyrs and the Ickenham Festival.
