CHANGING OF THE GUARD
 After holding the post of St Giles’ Church Warden for 2½ years, Caroline Hill is moving back to South Wales with her husband David and son James. At a special meeting of the congregation, Adrian paid tribute to her dedication.
He praised her calm, considerate and careful way with people, which benefited from her Human Resources skills. Caroline had been the first Warden for some time to undertake the job whilst still in full-time employment, testament itself to her drive and energy.
Fortunately, Keith Arnold had been nominated as her replacement, to work alongside fellow Church Warden Naomi Webb, and this new appointment was confirmed unanimously. Keith said he was much flattered by this vote of confidence and was looking forward to tackling the challenges ahead. “I’m aware”, he said, “that the Wardens are responsible for the upkeep and development of the church buildings. That’s quite a responsibility, considering the church itself dates back over 670 years. Fortunately, there are a number of experienced people around who have offered their help and, with Naomi’s guidance, I’m sure that together we’ll do whatever is necessary”.
FREE CHURCH CHOIRS ~ FESTIVAL OF CHURCH MUSIC
 Every two years, singers from non-conformist church choirs throughout the country gather together for a National Festival of Church Music. The next Festival takes place on Saturday 15th October in the magnificent Cathedral at St Albans, at 7pm. Admission is free and no ticket is required.
Ickenham URC’s church choir is taking part – not surprisingly, as Musical Director for the event is our own Organist and Choirmaster Peter Williams! The combined choir that evening should exceed 400 voices and those who have attended before will confirm what a rousing occasion it is likely to be.
Coaches will leave Ickenham at 11.30am for singers and supporters alike. The early start allows singers to arrive in time for a final rehearsal, while supporters can enjoy the sights (and shopping) in St Albans until the concert begins.
