THANKS TO HEATHER PIPER

After almost seven years as ICN Editor, Heather Piper (relaxing, left) has decided to hang up her hat, put down her quill pen, tighten the cap on her ink bottle or, more likely, send the ICN computer files and email over to the new Editor, and retire from the role. 

During her time in charge, Heather oversaw a number of changes; she was the first to lead and manage a team of people to produce ICN; under Heather we have seen more bumper issues, impressive colour ones, ‘themed’ months and the inclusion of community stories.  We are delighted that each household in Ickenham continues to be brought into contact with local churches’ news via the ICN, which is put through thousands of letterboxes ten times a year.  Both of the congregations from our Ickenham Churches would like to say a very big “Thank You Heather” for all the time and enthusiasm you have put into this job and for what you have achieved over these last seven years.

We are pleased to welcome Susan Owen-Thursfield as the new Editor, and Patricia Potter as the new URC representative to the ICN.  Please continue to support them and the whole ICN team in the months and years ahead.

LAST MINUTE GIFTS – AND RUKIGA TOUCHDOWN

Last minute gifts for Sharlot Namara, the CLICK Rukiga child proudly sponsored by the Jack and Jill Toddler Group, were handed over to Brian Reid shortly before he left for Rukiga.  The Toddler group sent a dress and cardigan, a teddy and wind-up torch.  They also sent bunting consisting of ‘hands’, each one with a personal message for Sharlot from a Jack and Jill toddler.  One said “I like porridge”! 

Brian also took with him a framed copy of this picture, photographed in St Giles’. 

And it was an excited group from both churches who left Heathrow recently with all their gifts for the children sponsored by the CLICK Rukiga project!  These smiling faces, including Brian in less formal attire, were taken on the Equator en route between Entebbe and Mbarara - after travelling 20 hours!  A detailed report of what they got up to will be in next month’s ICN.
