FROM ST GILES’ CLERGY
Sometimes our stories of God’s work are miraculous and unusual; at other times they are more ordinary and everyday. Either way, the purpose of these stories is to point people to our amazing God for whom nothing is impossible, yet who loves us so much that He is interested even in the small things that concern us. At the beginning of December I had to go into Harefield Hospital for some surgery, because exercise was causing me chest pain. I thank God for these tell-tale signs, because they triggered an impressive degree of medical care. On the morning I was due to go into hospital for an angiogram, one of the set Bible readings for that day included these verses: ‘He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youth grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength…..they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not grow faint.’ (Isaiah 40.29-31) Through these words, I ‘heard’ God giving me a promise – those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. Those words formed a prayer for me as I lay on the operating table - whatever the outcome, my hope was in the Lord. Thankfully all went well and my strength is being renewed. God, working through the treatment and the exercise, is restoring me. Next month, we’re looking forward to our next Service of Healing and Prayer. It’s on 25th March at 6.30pm in St Giles’ (see details on page 5). There will be stories of healing, and a chance to pray for anyone wanting God’s restoring touch in their lives. Come along and put your hope in the Lord! Every blessing,
WOMEN’S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER The Women’s World Day of Prayer is a worldwide movement of Christian women of many traditions, who come together to observe a common day of prayer on the first Friday of March. Each year, the programme is prepared by a different group of women. This year, the women of Malaysia have prepared a service entitled “Let Justice Prevail”. The service for Ickenham and Ruislip will be held at 2pm on Friday 2nd March at Ruislip Methodist Church. Although the service has been initiated by women, the invitation to attend is warmly extended to all – men and women, young and old. The service will last about an hour, but please stay on afterwards if you can, when refreshments will be served. For further details, please contact Juliette Guthrie on 01895 622970.
