ANOTHER TROPHY FOR ICKENHAM YFC
In the local papers’ sports pages, we regularly read of the success of the various age group teams in Ickenham Youth Football Club; but this time it’s the slightly more mature management team adding to the trophy cabinet!* Husband and wife Derick and Annette McCorkell, Chairman and Secretary of the Club respectively, have been awarded the Swakeleys House Shield for 2012.
This award is made annually to people or organisations that have made an outstanding contribution to keeping Ickenham special. Derick and Annette were selected by the Ickenham Festival Team for the dedication they have shown in setting up the football club and overseeing its development for the past six years.
From its beginnings in 2006, with 55 members keen to play football in a competitive environment, Ickenham YFC has grown to its present 270 members, aged from four to fourteen. The children are organised into age group divisions and teams, each led by a manager and a qualified coach.
Receiving the award and certificate at the Club’s Presentation Evening at Uxbridge Golf Club, Derick said, “This comes as a big surprise and brings tears to our eyes. We accept it on behalf of everybody who has helped to build the Club for the benefit of Ickenham youth, and we thank the Ickenham Festival team for selecting us for this honour”.
*This particular trophy is available for us all to see. The Shield and certificate may be viewed in the special showcase in Ickenham Library.
